They make packs of plastic clips that clip to gutter and you string lights onto them. Check on Amazon.

Hi Howard, there are clips that you can purchase from your local home improvement store that clip onto rain gutters and then the other end clips onto the light string.
Check out command hook section at Home Depot or Lowes. Also should be in the Christmas section. They have outdoor clips available as well.
We found clips at the dollar store that work great on gutters.

Hello. There are plastic gutter clips designs that are very effective. I even use them for wind chimes and wind socks. There should be a design available that would meet your needs.

There are many different styles of Christmas lights. Depending on if the wires are straight or twisted, and if the bulbs are static or screw-in, some forms of mounting work better than others. If you want your lights to shine in a straight line, or if you want the stands clustered, will also partially dictate how they should be mounted. Likewise, there any many different styles of gutters varying in the thickness and depth of the walls.
The challenge will be to find the best kind of clip that matches both your lights and your gutters.
Posting of picture of the light strands that you want to mount would be helpful as then it could instantly be seen what you have to work with.
You can find special clips for the gutters for hanging lights. They sell them at most craft and hardware stores.
We always use plastic clips. They are sort of "S" shaped and one side is smaller, hooking to the gutter with the larger pocket side holding the light strand.

Sounds like you found the answer, but we always use zip ties, after the clips failed.
