Suggestions on decorating

Does anyone have any suggestions (cheap) on how I can make this area of my house look better? I do not get that much sun in this area. It is mostly always shaded. Right now I just have rocks down. No border yet. I was thinking larger rocks to edge? I would like to put a type of plant or decorations but really need some help on ideas!
I like the larger rock idea between the sidewalk and the rock against the house. Remove all that other stuff and do potted plants - Herbs would be nice they would get by with at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight a day and you could cook with them.
