Have you checked to see if those plants will grown in your zone? SW FL is specific for what will grow there. Are you growing plants in a swamp that need dry? If you throw the correct seeds at the ground in SW FL, they will grow like crazy. Go to http://edis/ifas.ufl.edu/ to look up growing things in FL

Go to a local nursery and they will help you. My granddaughter put her christmas flower in the dirt and it is now 6 ft tall. There are a lot of things you can plant. You just havve to know which plants will grow in your area. You don;'t have to buy any plants but you can talk to a nursery person and they will help you.

I would take a soil sample to your location nursery. They can test and rule out any issues with your soil. Good luck!
