What is the most economical way to level a landscape?

Well if you live on a steep hill and you want a bigger play area, there aren't too many choices. Sounds like you need to build a retaining wall and back fill it. Depending on the size, it could be quite expensive, but I would advise you to get several estimates on different types. A brick and mortar, a mortarless brick wall, railway ties, or a rock wall encased in heavy duty wire. Those are some choices. Once you chose which type, then get several estimates from different contractors. If you feel you have the skills to DIY, then you still must cost it out.Helpful Reply -

Can you post a photo? I am thinking you will need to build a jumbo retaining wall and fill in, or somehow terrace what you have and add fencing so kids and pets do not go tumbling down the hill.Helpful Reply -

Depending on the angle of the slope and the size you need leveled, you will have to create a 'terrace.' There is a lot of physics involved. You'll need to consider stability and drainage. If the area is larger than 10 X 10, or has a drop of more than 18 inches, I would call a landscaper for an estimate. That's really too much for an individual to tackle.Helpful Reply -
