The fence is about 6 or 7 years old. It never had a finish put on it and now looks weathered. I don't want something that needs re-doing every couple years. What kind of finish should I put on my pressure treated wood fence?

  • No matter what you put on it - there will be maintenance required every few years or so. Easiest would be to do a natural color stain so it will not be as noticeable when it fades and ages.

Pressure wash this, let dry for several days, then apply ONE STEP deck stain from www.onestepwood.com. My deck still looks new after 8 YEARS! Hallelujah! This is an amazing product.

Depending on where you live, you'll need to re-stain every few years. Try Thompson's Water seal with stain. They have semi transparent colors in different colors and coverage. It'll restore the finish to your fence.

Leave it to go a silver grey naturally or you could use a grey wood preserver. or any other colour wood preserver or Fence stain.

First step is to power wash the fence and let dry totally. Then get either General Finishes outdoor epoxy stain or Thompson's stain. Apply with a brush, Wipe off excess and let dry.

I have a 5' or 6' wood bench. Won't one of these methods work for a bench and would I have to use the stain on the back side and underneath the seating?

Go to Sherwin Williams get one of their stains. I bought a 70 dollar sprayer from Amazon and pressure cleaned my fence. The sprayer for a fence is a must or you will be there forever. Do it right, I used no soap, just water to pressure clean. Let dry a day and either roll or spray that chair. I also used Tung oil on my teak lounge chairs but the wood stain is better. I chose the Mountain Ash color as it will not look bad in a couple years. We get humid and rainy weather along the Gulf panhandle here and water beads right up and off.

Yes, power wash is the way to start, remove all weather related dirt and debris from your fence, let dry. A natural stain on it would look good, no matter what you do, it will need maintenance to keep it looking good. Thompson's make a good product. Go to the diy stores and select something you'd like to see on it.

  • First power-wash it and let it dry. Then stain it with a transparent stain. It will be easier to use a sprayer.

  • I would use Thompson's Water Seal.

Use Fence Stain or Paint. Will require doing every so often to keep it looking good.

  • We used a semi transparent stain. Wood requires maintenence so it does need to be restained every few years, but the semi covers well and lasts a long time.
