I have very high ceilings can a smoke alarm be placed on a lower wall?

I placed two of our smoke alarms as far up as I could reach, but no higher. I am 5'2". Now I can reach them to change and check the batteries. I keep one in the kitchen about ten feet from the stove. More than once I have forgotten something in or on the stove, and the smoke alarm caught it before I did. Btw, I only use the microwave now if my husband is home, too.Helpful Reply -
