Lighthouse Solar Light

I took 2 birdhouses and combined them to make this cute little lighthouse solar light. The top of the lighthouse is a new birdhouse I purchased at Michael's. I found the bottom birdhouse at Goodwill. It was in rough shape and the roof was coming off. I removed the roof and the cross decoration on front of the bottom birdhouse and spray painted it bright red.
I gathered the few supplies I would need.
Then I painted the top birdhouse white and after it dried, I used painters tape to tape off the diagonal stripes and spray painted it black to achieve the black and white stripes.
Next, I removed the top piece with the rope loop and drilled a hole in the top of the black and white birdhouse to accommodate the solar light.
I made a fence to go around the top birdhouse by using wood pegs and balls, which I glued together with E6000 glue and then glued chain on them to connect them. I stuck it in styrofoam and let it dry overnight before attaching it to the birdhouse.
I spray painted the fence black and drilled holes in the bottom of the top birdhouse to attach the fence.
I attached the top birdhouse to the bottom birdhouse with more E6000 glue and nails.
It still didn't look finished to me, so I went to Home Depot and found some trim I thought would look good to connect the top and bottom birdhouses. They cut them into 1 1/2 inch lengths for me :). I spray painted them black and attached them just under the top birdhouses to make the birdhouses look connected. Finally, I glued small river rock on the bottom.
It was a fun and easy project and looks so cute in my backyard "beach".

I love this! When I saw it, I told my husband this is what I want for my birthday. He immediately ordered the birdhouse. Thanks for sharing this.
