I use a shot glass full to almost top of cider vinegar. Add a very minute drop of dish soap to vinegar. I use a tiny funnel to balance on top of glass. I support the handle with a small object. Just leave on stove or counter. The vinegar draws the knats, makes them go into the funnel to drink and then they can't Get out. Soap helps to keep them in and sink to bottom.Persisant little pests, but this solves my problem quickly every time.Helpful Reply -

you have to re-pot them. They are fungus gnats and spraying alone will not get rid of them. Fungus gnats lay eggs in the soilHelpful Reply -

Don't put vinegar in a plant! It kills them fast! But i discovered that Raid gets rid of bugs in plants and won't hurt them. It says so on the label. I spray some on the dirt, and use a plastic fork to carefully work it in, without hurting the roots, and it seems to do the trick.Helpful Reply -

What you do depends on where the gnats are coming from. If it is plants, you need to repot in new soil and clean the pot really well. The gnats use the soil to breed. Use the vinegar and soap nearby the affected pots to catch the ones flying around. If they are in the kitchen, use the vinegar/soap to catch the ones flying around. Remove any soft or thin skinned fruit from the counter or pantry. They will breed by laying their eggs in tomatoes, potatoes that have any soft spots or bruises. Wash any fruits or vegetables that you leave on the counter all the time as soon as they come in the house. A lot of the times the flies will come in on produce you buy at a farmers market or even a grocery store. If you find them around your sink, they like moist areas like the elbow that has water in it all the time. Pour boiling water down your sink to get the ones that are down there. If you really have a lot of them, put up a fly strip, they may be ugly, but they really do a lot of the work of getting rid of the adults. Take out your trash really frequently while you are having problems with them.Helpful Reply -
