Growing up my mom had us kids search her tomato plants almost daily for these large green catepillars (sp?). When we found one she would cut it in half. She said it was the best "organic" way to stop them. Plus it kept us busy because she had a huge garden with a lot of tomato plants!

For the squirrels I use cayenne pepper sprinkled all over the trouble areas and also grated Irish spring soap. If that isn't enough I get out the mouse traps and bait them with peanut butter. They are too big to get caught, but the wire snapping shut scares the bejesus out of them and they steer clear of that area for a while. It has lasted up to two months for me. Just move them to different areas if necessary to control them. The pepper and soap shavings need to be reapplied after it rains for sure or if it has been a long time. I have noticed that it does disappear after a while.
