The moles are in your yard eating the insects that are in the ground. They really are not eating your grass roots, but their digging does damage the roots. Purchase an insect killer, either liquid you can spray or granular that can be broadcast, and apply as directed. Wait recommended time and treat a second time. -

its likely not moles - more likely it is raccoons or skunks - looking for grubs - get rid of the grubs and you will likely get rid of the problem- See 2 previous
