The use of thick mulches or weed barrier fabric can help smother the seedlings in spring. Do not allow the vines to flower and set seed, which will prevent some of the sprouts the following spring.Helpful Reply -

Dig deep and get the whole root. As Shoshana said, don't let the flowers set seed and that should help. That is how I kept my mint under semi control. My chives definitely were kept under control that way in a square foot area.Helpful Reply -
