in a narrow neck bottle, combine water, vinegar and a little dish liquid. I've also had luck with dumping half a box of baking soda into a dirty but empty trash can. -

Place some apple cider vinegar or a package of yeast, mixed with a little sugar and warm water in a bowl, put plastic wrap over top and puncture a small hole in the top. The flies will find their way in but not their way out. -

wash fruits that you don't put in the fridge when you bring them home -- bananas, apples, oranges etc. and you can make FF traps from small ( baby food jars or smaller ) -- Apple cider vinegar, and a hammer/nail to perforate the lid -- you can paint the outside of the jar/lid -- they find it by scent - not sight. Just rinse it out when the vinegar evaporates/gets full of bugs and refill -

Fruit flies congregate where there is ripe fruit. When you bring fruit in from the grocery store, wash it and refrigerate it. If you keep it on the counter, check it to make sure it doesn't get overripe. You need to be proactive on this - not fix it after it's already happened. -
