Because of a spinal injury I can no longer take care of my yard. I now have black tar paper covered by river rocks. My trouble is the weeds still come, and come. I can't keep up with them. My mobile park has rules about yard maintenance. So you see my problem. Appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you.

I use 100% dark colored polyester double-knit or any similar very closely woven 100% polyester as a weed block. It lasts for years. Dark colors help prevent weed/grass growth underneath it by starving them from sunlight. Top with rocks, pebbles, oyster shells, whatever u choose. Any weeds or grass that pops up can be easily sprayed & killed OR picked out, shake off pebbles or whatever roots are clinging too, & toss weed or grass in trash bag. It's gone & won't be growing back. Another may take it's place but they will be fewer & more easily managed. Not being able to anchor roots into soil beneath greatly reduces number of weeds & grass to have to deal with. This is a long term solution. I've used this in flower beds for years.

    Hope this helps.

Things can grow on the side of a cliff so stopping nature is impossible. My best advice is container planting. You can put them in the ground or above. Wooden boxes made of any kind of cheap material can be stained or painted. The wooden boxes can be built to any height. If you HOA says no then just do containers. planted halfway down would stop the weeds from your flowers. If it is just the lawn you are concerned over there are weed killers that can be put down by just attaching to the water hose. If you are going to live there for a long time, think about zoysia grass. It can be started with plugs and once it takes over it is weeds be gone.

  • Spray the weeds with vineģar, let die and hose off the rocks occasionally to have them look clean, neat and tidy.

I have weed mat and pebbles in my front garden. A few small shrubs and flowers because I like flowers. I use a weed wand to keep the weeds down. It always looks tidy.
