Is there a way to get rid of spiders without killing them?

I want a way to discourage spiders from taking up residence in my home. Everything deserves to live, just not with me.

i am clearing an area to plant a butterfly/bee wild flower garden. The area is full of burdock and the soil is hard packed clay. I have been digging the burdock out... See more
put conkers on your window sills and a couple on your door step, sounds silly but apparently spiders do not like them, it works for me
peppermint...grow it outside around you house in a few places and swipe a bit of oil around your doors and window sills.
Personally I don't mind a few spiders. If they are in residence, then so too is their food. Unless they are Black Widows or Brown Recluse (aka Fiddlers) then I very much prefer their presence to the little gnats and such that they capture and eat. Most of my spiders reside in out of the way spots or hidden corners. But if they do get overpopulated, I practice catch and release. I do appreciate and admire your wish to be nonlethal in controlling our eighth legged friends. I don't know what conkers are but if you do, then give them a try!!!
Spiders tend to avoid areas with orange oil, slivers of Osage orange fruits.
