Kittens and cats hate the smell of citrus, so put your lemon, lime, orange and gratefruit peels in the soil and around the roots of your plants to deter them.

Cayenne pepper is supposed to work.
I was told moth balls or urinal cakes.
Coco mulch.. they don't like to walk on it and it smells like chocolate.
Tea tree oil, clove oil, peppermint or orange oil, ruta graveolens (Rue) essential oil or plants are very effective, as is cayenne pepper.
