It may not be do it yourself, but for about $7 we bought a "Victor Fly Magnet" trap from Amazon to keep the flies out of my chicken coops and yards. They had some sort of supernatural fly catching ability, they caught so many flies. The bottom of the plastic jar turned black with fly bodies deteriorating in the trap water, and soon the entire jar was black. We had to add water to drown the layers on top. It pretty much stinks. I tried home made traps and they didn't work at all.
Hi Diane, have you tried Hot Shot No Pest Strip. They work really well and you could hang them on the pot.
Hi Diane! Apple cider vinegar saved me from that aggravation. I would take a small bowl, put about an inch of the apple cider vinegar in, add a squirt of dishwashing detergent, and enough water to make bubbles. Then I would sit the bowl where the flies were and they would drown. I also pour vinegar down my sink drain at least once a week. Easy, and it works.
they are fungus gnats easiest way is to buy Nematodes and add to soil Good site & info. https://www.arbico-organics.com/category/pest-solver-guide-fungus-gnats or you can remove all soil throw out,or bake in oven or sun to kill, then dunk roots in water to clean, repot all your plants/ also clean all pots. Fungus gnats live & breed in wet moist humus/soil so plants are most likely too wet too
