We have a big problem with armadillo down here in Florida. We have spent a lot of money trying to get grass to grow only to have the ugly things dig holes in it. There's not a lot you can do unless you get rid of their food source which is grubs and worms. I won't let my husband spray pesticides because I don't want to hurt the birds and kill off one of their food sources. My neighbor says he goes out at night and shoots them but I can't bring myself to do that either. I will be interested to know if others have a better way to deter them. Sorry I couldn't be of much help.
You could try spraying castor oil around the edges of your lawn and in any holes they are living in. Spray some on the lawn in the areas where they are digging as well. They don't seem to like the taste or smell, or so I have heard.

We live in the country and raccoons are becoming pests. Even flowers in pots on the porch are dug up at night. I've seen them in action! They never eat the plants....
