What is a natural way to keep chipmunks out of your garden?

My mother-in-law is constantly chasing chipmunks out of our garden and filling their holes with stones. She thinks that their tunnels will eventually collapse our walkways and yard. Although it keeps her occupied, it's maddening to watch.... What advice do you have?

I put mothballs down the holes wherethe lil critters come and go. They don't like the smell apparently it won't harm them, so they will just move somewhere else.

I feed them away from areas that they would cause problems. They also eat the fallen seed from my bird feeders. I love watching them myself. As far as I can tell, they are not causing problems, maybe because I do feed them. I do have many pin wheels throughout my veggie garden already to try to scare away the rabbits and squirrels.
