If you can get into the area after a rain and pull up the weeds by the roots that will help. Round Up will work if you can keep the dog away from the area for a few days. As far as ticks go--protect yourself--wear light clothing so you can see if the ticks are on your clothing, tuck your long pants into your socks, wear long sleeves, and spray your clothing with a bug repellant product that contains Deet. Make sure you check yourself well for ticks after you have been in the weedy area. Understand that any deer ticks are very small and sometimes difficult to see while the dog ticks are larger. Any ticks that may be attached to you have to be attached for more than 24 hours to transmit disease so it is important to check yourself over right away.Helpful Reply -

I recently cleaned out my soft water salt container. At the bottom was a potent slurry of salt water. I threw the slurry onto a batch of grasses/weeds growing near my patio. The remaining salt was also thrown on the area. Noticed two days later, a wonderful browning color!I also have several cats and two dogs that wander in that area. The dogs like eating grass and this is an area they ‘go to’ for their greens. My suggestion is to buy a 40# bag or a 50# block at your farm and fleet type store. Mix or set salt in a LARGE PLASTIC container. Pour, dip out your slurry into a container you will want to use again for this purpose.Helpful Reply -

Boiling water or vinegar will work well and help rid the area of ticks. I spray the perimeter of my property once a month with vinegar for weed abatement, flea and tick control. Lots of pets here so no chemicals.Helpful Reply- See 1 previous

I used baking soda and vinegar to kill the weeds around my walkway and fence. It's non-toxic to pets and doesn't poison the ground. I sprinkled a lot of bakin soda on the weeds/grass, then sprayed vinegar on it. This concoction will bubble up and kill whatever plantlife it touches. Mine worked for a year, then I had to do it again.Helpful Reply -
