Mix a solution of detergent and vinegar and spray it on the growth! It really does work!

  • 1 gal of vinegar, 1/2 cup of salt and good squirt of blue dawn. In a sprayer place salt, add vinegar and a squirt of dish soap. Use on a hot day. Spray in the morning and the heat will do the work. Smell will dissipate. Not to worry. Actually works all the time but a hot day is quicker. Good luck!

I've been using the vinegar, salt, Dawn mixture for years now and find it's more effective than Roundup. The science behind the solution is that the Dawn helps the liquid stay on the unwanted "growiest" rather than running off, he vinegar helps the foliage wilt and the salt makes the soil unfriendly for the vegetation to grow. It's safe around children and pets and is environmentally friendly.

It works relatively quickly and lasts longer than you'd expect. I spray it around the pool and give the cracks in our sidewalk and driveway a good dose at the beginning of the summer. I only have to give a bit of a spritz about once during the summer. The only real thing to remember is to make sure you spray it when no rain is expected. Rain will wash it away.
