no, not harmful to the plants - they keep the soil loose, eat other bugs or dead vegetation... you can spray the OUTSIDE of the planters with vinegar -- but do not get it on your plants!! it will kill them!Helpful Reply -

Cornmeal. Not the cornbread mix, but just the meal. Around the perimeter of the area. They will take it to the nest, and cannot digest it thus killing the entire nest.Helpful Reply -
