Abbywoof, is your porch wood or Concrete? On a wooded porch you can attach with lag screws, but be sure you are screwing into solid lumber. This may require blocking underneath. Concrete you can use RedHead bolts drilled into the concrete. This will require a hammer drill. If unsure if this a project to undertake please post photos of your porch.Helpful Reply -

If in concrete you can use Tapcons to attach the railings as long as they have the flanges at the bottom with holes drilled for accepting the screws. Use 1/4" x 3" and use a good drill to make the holes. Tapcons come in sets with the proper drill bit in the package. Buy an extra one or two as they dull fairly quickly.Helpful Reply -
