What is the best way to give a cover to a deck without attaching to the house. We have a manufactured home. We have not finished painting the deck or the siding that we replaced, yet

Add a frame to your deck by replacing the current 4x4's with 4x4's about 10 or twelve feet tall. Then just add a frame and your choice of roof or retractable tarp.

Hi Kathy.....It looks like the roof line extends out over your deck as it is right now. Are you just wanting more shade? Looks like you need more of and awning or roll up shade to give your deck more protection from the sun. Can you explain a little more? Best of luck!

Why don't you want it attached? If your concerned about attaching a roof to the house, maybe you could get and automatic awning. They do attach to the roof, but you can open and pull it back in when you want. I really don't think that a free standing cover would be very stable. Also you would have had to prepare the deck before it was built, to hold the cover. The footings would have had to be bigger to carry the load of the cover. You would have needed posts by the house to hold it, too.
