How do I paint a glossy metal mailbox?

Question

It is white glossy painted mailbox for outside.  I'm not sure what else to say about it.  How can I paint it?

Lightly sand it to remove any gloss so paint will stick. Wipe it down. Prime it with Kilz or BIN, then paint your color

You can spray paint it with rustoleum 2X in the choice of any colors.Then for added protection spray with a non yellowing clear sealer.

Hi Dasjcollins.  As Williams said, sand lightly to remove/scuff up the gloss.  Clean and dry thourghly.  Use an outdoor primer, outdoor paint and outdoor sealer or high gloss paint.  For a mailbox I would use a Rustolemum product.  Happy painting.

Spray paint and use sticky wall stencils to create interest.

Or you may use Plasti Dip spray. You spray several layers to create a thick coat. It is durable and last.

Just remember, the more attention you bring to it, the more baseball bats it will bring in the Spring. Been there at the receiving end.

Sand it first so the new paint will adhere as William suggested.  If you don't want to paint there are magnetic mailbox covers in many patterns available online.

I painted metal, such as is used for duct work for a furnace. All I did was etch it with vinegar (just poured vinegar on rag and ran it over every part of the metal). This is on my chimney on my roof. This was done about 20 years ago and to this day the paint has adhered fine. No chips or bare spots any place. It was almost too easy. Simple way to do it. Please keep in mind the metal had no initial paint it was just bare metal. I don't know if this will make any difference.
