We bought new door handles/locks for our front doors about 3 years ago. They are black and were expensive. Now they are dull and dingy and the paint has worn off in some places due to weather and direct sunlight. Can anyone tell me what the best type of paint to use to re-do them? Thanks

I think rustoleum makes a good paint

You can use two different types of paint, either Rustoleum or automotive paint. Both are great for door handles. lightly sand, and prime with Rustoleum auto primer, then you can use either type of spray paint.

You could try using Rub 'n Buff - it comes in a small tube & all you do is rub it on & buff. You can get it in all sorts of colours as well as metallic finishes. You only need a very tiny amount. I think it has a wax base, but check with suppliers before using on outdoor materials. It works on wood, metals, etc.

Since they were expensive and a key part of a very visible door, I would take a section of the lockset to the paint department of the home improvement store and ask for their opinion. I am assuming that you have already contacted the manufacturer first to see if they will either replace the defective pieces or send you paint to match the original color.

Definitely degloss before painting! It makes the paint stick way better in my experience painting our door knobs.

Lightly sand to remove any gloss and roughen for paint. Use Rustoleum Spray Paint made for metal.
