Bakers Rack Becomes a French Beauty

4 Materials
“Rachelle” began her life as “Rachel,” an average nondescript baker’s rack.
But she was renamed the French beauty, Rachelle, after her amazing transformation. I am always in awe when I see the after affects of a little paint and some TLC.
You see these bakers racks all over at garage sales, estate sales and Craig's List. I found mine locally. It was in decent shape other than missing a plug and ratty shelf paper.
Simple Update – Big Change

After updating Rachel with spray paint and protecting her with a satin clear spray topcoat, I added distressed French hand stenciling. The shelf part is protected with an oil based topcoat.
She’s ready to get to work holding cookware and kitchen delicacies.
So often people put their old outdated furniture and accessories out to the road when all they need to do is give them a bit of TLC. Yes, this project took a few hours - between painting and finishing several coats of paint and finish, drying time and hand stenciling.

It was rather funny, I'm thinking, so see me trying to carry it in and out of the house each time I wanted to add another coat of something. Out to paint it, in to keep it safe at night, out to paint it again...

It took a bit of planning and patience, but it was worth it!
Once finished you can have a one of a kind piece that spruces up your kitchen and shows off your own unique style.
Stenciling adds flair that you won't typically see in the retail stores unless you shop at an exclusive and very expensive shop. Or should it spell it "shoppe"?

After I stenciled this shelf, I distressed it just a bit to add interest. Adding the oil based topcoat gives it more durability.

I've got a green one I use for storage in my workshop. Really not that great for a workshop. Gonna steal some of your ideas.

    • You don't need to steal them, I freely give them to you...LOL I think I might use a china cabinet for my workshop after I paint it. I have three, so I think I can spare it. :)
