Nautical Striped Table

Running a furniture business, I tend to paint furniture the colors I am drawn to. For me that is usually some form of turquoise, aqua or ivory. After looking back at my last few pieces I had decided that I was in a rut. I had seen some of my friends do some beautiful nautical pieces and with the the Fourth of July quickly approaching I decided it was the perfect time to step out of my box.

A friend of mine was giving this table away for free so of course I immediately offered to take it off of her hands.

It was pretty scratched up, and it smelled strongly of smoke.

I removed the hardware, stuck a dryer sheet in the drawer (to remove the smokey smell), cleaned it up and got to work.

I painted the entire piece with Plaster Paint in Cobalt Blue — this is the first piece I have ever used navy paint on.

After I painted on two coats of navy and let it dry, I started taping off my stripes with Frog Tape.

Once my tape was on, I painted on another layer of blue paint to seal my tape down so it wouldn’t bleed (which isn’t normally a problem with Frog Tape … but just in case) I then painted on my white stripes with Plaster Paint in Ivory Lace. I went over them twice.

I then distressed my whole piece and coated it in clear wax.

I spray painted my handles with Krylon spray paint in Cherry Red.

I think this would be super cute in a little boy or little girls room!
