  • What about some paint and then use sandpaper to distress it?

    • I was thinking you could just distress the paint. Maybe you could use some wood filler to smooth it before you paint.

It looks like a woven material, so I would probably spray paint it. An interesting idea I found online a while ago used rope to wrap desk legs: https://www.thriftydiydiva.com/diy-homemade-cat-scratching-post/
If they are still scratching it, that might help protect it further.

I would spray it white. It would take a while to get in every little crack and cranny, but it would be beautiful! Looks like it would to with your decor also.

I would take the drawers out, paint the trim. Get some metal grille, comes in different colors at HD or Lowes. Use the metal as a facing for each drawer and if you need to you can do the sides as well. Change the hardware too! I think it would look great.

I think I would try wiping it with a stain, minwax. Looks like from picture a honey or golden oak would blend nicely.
Just clean with a non oily cleaner to remove dust and dirt first. Let dry thoroughly before stain..you can keep your same basic look!
Then shut the door so cat can t get in..lol

I'm sorry your cat went to town on your nightstand..., but an easy quick fix would be to glue down the stray woven breaks as best you can so they don't get more frayed if possible and you could put an L-shaped metal plate over the legs on the front 2 or all 4 legs. (You know the metal pieces you see on trunks around the sides and edges) It will update the piece and cover the booboo like a bandaid. You could paint it too. And possibly take the drawers out and weave some thin sisal rope around that booboo. Good luck! Let us know what you do!!!
