You don't need to seal if you use oil based paints. Remove all hardware and drawes. Clean with TSP., then sand the sheen off and prime with Oil based primer. Lightly sand sad smooth then paint with oil based paint . Will look great for years
Wipe clean with TSP and paint with chalk paint.

If you’re a beginner, I suggest cleaning it well, make any repairs, and use chalk paint. Seal with paint wax or a polycrylic (Minwax is good).
