There are some spray paints that have a hammered finish when dried that you could do for the base and sand down the top then wax.

Add thick butcher block top. Sand down old paint(leave metal on feet) paint to coordinate with kitchen. Take out wire add wood with decoupage pic(don't forget to waterproof when done). Add wheels (locking ones on one end) . You have roving cutting board with storage for knives!

re-paint where it is black paint it, stain the top. remove the wire change it with a piece of wood. or wood slats, or even a nicer wire. leave the wire the natural color. and the metal on the bottom of the feet the natural color. you could even metal like that on the feet in place of the wire. add some wheels if you want it to be movable. maybe even add a basket on the bottom for extra storage. hope you like the ideas and hope they are helpful :) if you want the top bigger you could change out the piece of wood on top. i think a dark stain all over it would look really really nice too instead of paint.

Strip it n stain it n turn it into a sink vanity put one of those glass bowl sinks n brass fixtures keep all the metal on it.

@Crystal Parish I love your idea because its not always easy to find the right piece of furniture to put a pretty sink bowl on. This piece, in my opinion, would be perfect for a bathroom, paint the colors you like or strip and stain it.

I'd paint it a copper color.

I would give it a sanding and use chalk paint for the base. Top could also be painted or decoupage with scrapbook paper or fabric. Would replace the metal area with either tin tile or metal grate found in hardware stores. Sometimes you just need to see what appeals to you. Have fun!

One easy thing - put in your yard as an outdoor sink. Use a large plastic bowl or an aluminum one.

i would sand the dark part, then paint it white

That's a nice piece, I wouldn't put it outside in the elements. Depending on its height it would also be good next to either a bed or sofa.
