When I look online it gives me just a few steps. but all mention a stiffer feel. Is there any way to make it mores ofter to touch especially for the fabric,

If you use chalk paint, be sure to water it down 50/50 - water to paint ratio. It will help with the stiffness. Also after several coats of this paint, you can add wax to the dry material, buff it and it will soften the material. But, it will not be completely soft, just not as stiff.

If you use acrylic paint, mix it with 1/3 fabric medium and heat set if possible. (Even a hot hair dryer would probably work.) The "paint" feel is gone!
