Shabby Chic Nest of Tables: Old Ochre & Dark Wax

Making this Shabby Chic Nest of Tables we decided to try something new for us.
Firstly – we tried new colour from Annie Sloan’s palette, secondly – as never before, we used mix of waxes to achieve finishing distress.
The new colour is ‘Old Ochre’, Annie Sloan’s chalk paint, very warm and creamy, a bit straw-coloured when dry, it reminds me a cocoa butter when treated with a layer of two waxes. We painted the table tops very roughly, to make a texture as deep as possible. And there it is, what do you think? In my opinion it is almost three-dimensional, especially when lighting falls at certain angle. Using of dark wax only emphasized the level of depth.
You can notice the depth I am talking about when looking closely at the print transfer on table top – the surface is uneven, and texture so bold, that screen printing was not as flawless as usually. Which is good – that gives more character to the shabby chic furniture.

We used Annie Sloan waxes, ‘Clear Wax’ as an under layer and ‘Dark Wax’ as a finish. It is our very first attempt to work this way. Like always in such situations, now we would do some things differently, but after all we are quite happy with the final effect. Off course – we would love to know your honest opinion, so do not hesitate to drop few lines especially when you ever worked with waxes on furniture.
