How can we paint over wall paper to make it looking nice?

The Problem: There is wallpaper and border, both have a texture. My idea was to texture over the paper but my husband says no. We do not want to remove the paper. Any ideas how to do this and create beautiful walls?

Behr used to make this really thick paint. You could paint over paneling and it looked like smooth Sheetrock when we were done. I think Home Depot ordered it for us. -

Comment by Aparker203 is good, there is really not an easy solution, any moisture might loosen the paper from the wall, especially if it is old. -

I wonder if that paint would work to get rid of 'knockdown plaster finish'. -

Painted paper usually turns out awful. I'd remove it! -
