How do I get plastic to take spray paint?

I've used primers, plastic fusion version, etc. my coffee containers are plastic & I can't find the metal ones anymore. I love to repurpose things or upscale plain ones to match my decor or that of those I'm making gifts for. No matter what I try the paint flakes off. I have created some unique effects mixing different brands of paint & clear coats though!

Is is possible your are spraying them to much paint at once? -

Rustoleum has a spray paint that is made for painting plastic. It is recommended for spraying plastic chairs but would work well on your canisters. -

Have you shopped online to find containers that don't have to be painted and are of a style that you like? Might be more expensive but easier. -

There is special spray paint for plastics. Try that! -
