What is best when painting a wall - roller or brushes?

I can paint edges no problem but a blank walk just never looks right to me. What is the best way to paint a wall?

  • I cut all the edges in with a brush and a roller for the big spaces. When rolling, you should use a few diagonal strokes as well us up and down to help the coverage.

  • My personal preference is a roller, but only because I have "orange peel" sheetrock walls, and I get better coverage. Come to think of it, other than cutting in, I always use some sort of a roller. I do thin coats in a modified "w" motion. Hope this helps!

I am the opposite of most and prefer a brush for everything. I feel that I waste too much paint with a roller and after 50 years of painting our house walks, have still not mastered the art of not splattering paint everywhere. Adding floterol to the paint helps to eliminate brush marks.
