Is there a way to make painted bookshelves look like wood?

there is a graining painting tool that I have used. I suggest you look into it as it is not terribly expensive (you also need a glazing medium) but I found I had to practice a little first and then had great results.![]()

I also did this to the door of a cabinet, but this graining only works with paint so it doesn't really look like wood. You could strip the paint if the shelves are really wood but a lot of wood doesn't have graining that shows.![]()
