Painting laminate cabinets

by Brenda Brown
My daughter has laminate cabinets in her kitchen that are a terrible almond colour. We are going to paint them white but I would like to know if anyone has painted laminate and if so, what kind of paint did you use and did you put a topcoat of anything etc. Also, any tips for prep etc are appreciated! thx.

I agree I'm interested in this process from someone with actual hands on experience. Sometimes random links don't help ! I'll keep an eye on this post to see what's recommended thanks Brenda!

  • With laminate cabinets make sure to degloss them and use a very good primer (Stix by Benjamin Moore is recommended by many pro painters). Then you can use a good quality paint of your choice. You could also do chalk paint to give them a more shabby/rustic/country feel. Cleaning the cabinets after you degloss them is key to good adhesion ofthe primer and paint too. Always do light coats and wait for the paint to cure per instructions. Good quality brushes are a must too.have fun!
