Need to identify this plant--goldenrod maybe?

Goldenrod is a native plant in the Eastern US. It does not cause seasonal allergies like ragweed does. Ragweed blooms at the same time, but has insignificant (visually anyway) flowers.

I find it also all over along our country roads in Western North Carolina. I got some today to try and dry for all arrangements or wreaths. I have removed the leaves and hung upside down to see how this does, I also sprayed some with hair spray to see if it holds the color better. It is everywhere, you took a fabulous photos of it. Sure is. Sells for $3 a stem at a floral shop near me. I chuckle every time I see fields of it.

I have used it in floral arrangements myself, from the wild picked stems from my field. Very pretty filler.

It IS a weed BUT someone decided a few years ago that they would make wonderful garden/yard plant material NOW the country is covered with them. Milkweed, Queen Anne's Lace are just a couple more on that "gardening" list these days
