How do I repair the showing of drywall screws?

My home is 12 years old now and the drywall screws are starting to sho

    If screws, screw them back in, if nails set them.back in patch the holes with drywall, sand smooth and touch up patch with primer, repaint wall.

    If the screws are backing out, you will need to countersink into the sheetrock. Put a thin coat of mud over the holes and feather out. With a damp sponge, smooth out once the mud is dry. Repeat for a minimum of 3 times. Then you can paint. We hired someone to hang our sheetrock & finish. When they left, it was only 1 coat of mud. We ended up paying them only for hanging because they insisted that is all is needed. I think that is the standard now and it just isn't going to hold up over time.
