Jacki, please make sure you turn off the entire breaker box when doing this.
We found out the hard way that although something might be marked to be a certain circuit sometimes wires are not as they seem. My husband got quite the shock one day while we thought we turned everything off except for a certain area of the house. It made no sense why that even with spark him because it’s not even on the same circuit but apparently somehow somewhere along the line somebody wired it in a crazy way.
I would also suggest a tester before touching any wires. Even electricians check a wire, first:
