How do I repair damage to a drawer front?




My partner mad up a tallboy unit but put the dowels on the wrong side and the dowels pierced the front of the bottom drawer so on each side there is superficial damage on both sides and am unable to source another drawer front I need to cover the damage somehow but to look if it’s meant to b there

I am wondering if the dowels could be removed, cut down a tad, then re-inserted so that they no longer are pushing through the drawer fronts?
If this is not possible, then what about glueing some sort of fabric webbing trim across the surface of the drawer front? I am thinking fabric as it will be flexible enough to glue over the bumps, yet with the pattern, the bumps underneath might not be noticeable. I don't know what the decor of the room is, but purchasing trim by the yard need not be expensive.
