How do you take off seat cover on a cedar chest ?

I am wanting to replace the fabric on the seat cover and maybe paint or restrain the rest of it

There are many different styles of chests and seat covers. If you posted a picture of yours, we could see what exactly you have to work, and would then be able to offer suggestions specific to your project. -
