Hello —what is the exact problem that needs fixing?
Function or appearance?
Sometimes paint is an exciting refurbish.
Chalk painting is popular.
Poly shades stain is another
Here’s a polyshades link to look over the polyshades content and see if it’s a product that will meet your needs. It can be applied over existing existing poly finishes without any stripping or sanding. I find reviews and Q&A’s can often direct me towards the correct purchase. Hope this helps.

I am not sure what needs fixing on your chest of drawers. Is it the finish, the drawers that stick or what? here is info that may help

You can put new bottoms in the drawers using luan. If they are sticking, beeswax or soap rubbed on the sliding mechanism will help.
I don't know of anything else that would be a fix unless you are talking about re-finishing. In that case, you can paint by roughing with steel wool then clean with denatured alcohol, prime, and paint.
For an update, try new hardware.
What is the problem with the chest of drawers? We could give you a better answer if we knew what the problem was. Thanks!
Marina....What is wrong with it? Can you send a picture? Thanks
Do you need repair or are you looking to stain or paint the chest of drawers?
Marina, you really need to tell us what you're starting with so we can try to help you. Let us know what the chest looks like now, your idea of a finished project, and your budget. Photos would be so helpful.
Hi Marina,
Can you post a picture or maybe describe your issue? I can then answer the question appropriately.
You don’t say what’s wrong with it if it’s loose going back and forth you need to secure the back with another piece of weed and nail it around all the edges that will help stableize it.
As others have said, without knowing specifically what's wrong we can only be general. However, you can patch gouges with wood filler, you can repair glides on drawer, you can even fix peeling veneer or laminate.
