Before chemicals, my first step is always to remove the drain plug, and use a pair of tweezers to clean out any hair clogs that are there. Our bathroom drains almost always are clogged with hair first and it's usually easy to get at once the drain plug is out of the way.
After that, if it is still clogged then boiling water or Drano is the next step.
If you have not already, try cleaning the drain with a long pipe cleaner (the fuzzy craft-store-type things). If that doesn't work and you want to go with a low-chemical solution, try using a baking soda/white vinegar mix. I forget the measurements, but try 1/4 cup baking soda dumped into the drain. I use an old toothbrush to brush it in. Then pour a cup or two of vinegar in. It'll bubble up, so be aware. After 15 minutes or so, rinse the drain with hot water for a minute.
I know this sounds crazy but after trying to clean it by removing hair, I then pour in baking soda and vinegar. It fizzes up, I then run hot water into it a few minutes. Next I use a plunger and plunge it a few times. Then more hot water. It's worked for me!
