The holes holding the screws on the door are looose. I have put larger and longer screws but are loose again.

Fill the holes with wood filler. You can purchase a small can or tube at your local hardware store. I've fixed loose holes and filled ones I wanted to get rid of with it for years. Works great.

I would take off the plate, and get some dowels to fit in the holes, cut a piece add carpenter's glue and hammer the piece of dowel in each. Then go back to the smaller diameter screw. You can find the dowels at any hardware store.

Both of the suggestions above are very good. Or you could jam a bunch of wooden toothpicks in the hole and fill it with wood glue. Let it dry then use the smaller screws.

R YOU DON'T SAY IF IT'S A SOLID WOOD DOOR, LUAN OR WHAT. IF WOOD I WOULD TAKE OFF THE STRIP RUNNING UP THE DOOR, REPLACE IT WITH NEW WOOD AND SCREWS, PAINT AND IT SHOULD WORK. IF THE DOOR IS HOLLOW THAT MAY WORK FOR A WHILE, I FINALLY REPLACED MINE.
