How do I replace attic stairs in my hallway?

We have to put screws in the stair door to the ceiling so the whole ladder system won't fall on us or our children but unsure how to fix it. Thanks

There are complete attic stair kits that you can get to replace the entire system but in the meantime for safety you might be able to fit a latch hook sliding lock on it. I'd inspect it thoroughly to determine what the weakness is and perhaps you could remove the whole thing, repair the hardware or wood and replace it. -

Unless this is a pretty new pull-down stair, I would opt for a new one installed by professionals. Sounds like the stair itself is wobbly and that's not good!
