Ho do I do a back splash on a very long kitchen wall?

Hello Lis! If you don't want to do the whole wall with backsplash the most natural looking area to add some backsplash would in the space where the sink is. You could add some tile there and paint the rest a coordinating color.

Your galley kitchen will definitely perk up with a back splash. Depending on your taste and the rest of the home's decor, pick a color/design that makes you smile because a kitchen is the heart of the home. Remember tile is pretty permanent, so if you're unsure, try paint or a peel n stick product first. And, yes, I'd definitely do the whole wall with maybe a complementary surface behind the sink where you can add a light or shelf or other decor.

You can buy really nice peel and stick back splash. It can be cut to fit the kitchen and is easy to install. It is much cheaper than doing regular back splashes too. Check with your local home improvement stores

i used to design kitchens, so I’ve seen many different ways to approach this. If you’re not certain you want backsplash the whole way, you might consider a “window shopping” trip to get started. Look at different options. Home improvement stores usually have kitchen displays that show complete kitchen that spark imagination. You may see different type splashes...fancy textures, faux finishes, stencils, fancy tiles, faux-tin or brick-look, and many others. The possibilities are endless. With some of these options, you can purchase a few pieces and bring them home. Use loops of masking tape (the green “Frog” tape or the blue kind in the paint Dept) to stick some of the tiles on your wall and live with it a few days (the tape peels off without damaging the tiles, so you can return if needed). See how you like it in daylight...in room light. You might love it in the store and hate it at home. Took me 18 trial runs before I found my “perfect” tile.

Some people prefer to tile just in the areas that get a lot of “splash”, meaning the area behind your sink and that above your stove/range/cooktop. This make the area easy to clean. Most popular seems to be tiling the entire area, but having a “focal point”/special design above the stove/range/cooktop (and sometimes above the sink, if there is no window and a room to allow for it). We, too, have a galley kitchen w/13' length and had awesome results with linear tile. We installed the entire length with a multi-colored linear that has some mirrors, frosted & iridescent pieces of various lengths plus...colored ones as well. The mirrors reflect and make the kitchen look more "open." They also add a little "sparkle" and really never get monotonous to look at. I suggest you check out numerous color-variations and sizes at your local tile shops as on-line won't give you a true color. We DID, however, purchase ours on-line AFTER checking out local displays. Since you have some stainless appliances & sink, you may also think about linear choices w/a few stainless pieces here & there. Happy decorating!
