Dremel will fit right in there . They have bits just for that at the hardware store
I have just gone through this. What I did that still involved scrubbing. I used a hard bristle brush with a handle so I didn't have to get on my knees ( to painful). Using some cleaner that I saw a demo at Sams club (Whip-it) "earth friendly". This stuff smells good and works. With these two things and elbow grease our grout is clean.
I did it the lazy way. Cleaned the grout then used grout paint with sealer built in. Unless the grout is coming out in chunks, I would just repair and paint. Actually, you might want to look into Spreadstone. You can paint this stone on and it's not really paint..more like real stone. Check them out at http://www.daichcoatings.com
If it would be of help to you, invest in a very good pair of professional's knee pads, which can be found at home stores or larger hardware stores.
Maepi makes a grout color and sealer all in one. Just clean the grout well, and use this product. You can buy it on Amazon. It works like a charm.
