I am trying to find out if anyone has transformed an old dresser into a kitchen island.
What are the best ways to strengthen everything.

My kitchen is very small so I added a dresser to give me additional counter space and storage. My dresser was already very sturdy so all I did was paint it and put is along a wall in my kitchen under a pot rack. Of course, this photo is when we first moved into the house. It is a little more organized now. I just didn't have the space for an island. Good luck with your project.

I have a neighbor that did this. She removed the drawers and inserted a piece of thin wood in it's place and then painted the entire piece off white. For the top, she stripped off the stain that was there and then re-stained it and sealed it. She added hooks on the sides for towels.

I used an old record player cabinet because it was the right size, height, etc. I gutted it, painted the outside and put a slab of marble over the top (I scored both pieces on Craigslist) and use it every day for my baking center with my Kitchen Aid stand mixer on it. I had an electrician wire an outlet in the ceiling above it. Good luck.
