I just went to Detroit's craiglist and went to free stuff and searched pallets. There are multiple posts yesterday and last few days :) Maybe one will be near you.
Try furniture stores
Check with Lowes or other type of store; the one in my area gives them away.
Try freecycle.org or if you are on Nextdoor.com see if anyone has any they are disposing of. Check out this site too!

Check out Local Online Sales Market and Industrial areas.
Our local businesses sometimes give them away. Even the local store that sells tools gives their spare on away. So do many pet marts.
